Turn One Course SRT into Subtitles for Every Module

One recording, a dozen modules

A course is recorded as long sessions and consumed as modules: chapter one ends at 12:40, chapter two runs to 31:05, and each module needs its own subtitle file that starts at its own 00:00. Doing this by hand means finding every caption inside each chapter, copying it into a new file, subtracting the chapter start, renumbering and naming the file — once per module, and again every time a lesson is updated.

What is a clip-relative subtitle file? A clip-relative subtitle file is a subtitle file whose cue timings start at 00:00:00,000 — the first frame of a single video clip — instead of the full-length source video's timeline. The course module workflow

1. Export one SRT for the whole recording. Keep it untouched — it stays the single source of truth for every module.
2. List the chapters in a CSV. Three columns: name,start,end. Copy the chapter markers straight from the editing timeline and name rows after the module codes.
3. Run the batch splitter. Every row is validated with its row number; captions that cross a chapter boundary are trimmed or excluded per module.
4. Deliver the ZIP. One SRT and TXT per module under srt/ and txt/, plus a manifest that records range, caption count and policy.

Lessons get updated; chapters get re-cut

Courses are revised every term: a module is re-recorded, a chapter boundary moves, a recap is added. Because the chapters live in the CSV and the master SRT is never modified, a revision is a row edit and a re-run — not a season of files reopened by hand.
