Exporting requires signing in and uses one project of your plan (free: one project, up to 200 captions). Uploaded files are deleted after 24 hours. Timecodes accept HH:MM:SS.mmm and HH:MM:SS,mmm.
How to split an SRT file in three steps
- Upload the SRT exported for the full-length source.
- Enter the split point, for example
00:12:30.000, and pick the timing for part 2. - Review both previews, then export one ZIP with the SRT and TXT of each part plus a manifest.
When splitting at one point is the right tool
- Course modules — one subtitle file per lesson cut from a single recording.
- YouTube chapters — split the transcript where the chapter markers sit.
- Podcast episodes — separate the interview from the outro, or an ad break from the conversation.
- Long webinars — hand the first half to one editor and the second half to another.
If you only need the middle of a file, use the split SRT by timestamp tool instead: it extracts one start-to-end range and discards the rest.
The caption in the middle
Exactly one caption usually straddles the split point. Trimming puts its first half at the end of part 1 and its second half at the start of part 2, so no words disappear. Excluding removes it from both files. The preview above shows how many captions are affected before you export.
